The Kitgut Quartet was formed in 2015 on the initiative of internationally acclaimed baroque and classical violinist Amandine Beyer alongside her ensemble Gli Incogniti. Since then, the group has been questioning the origins of the string quartet by travelling through different eras and repertoires. Their first recording, ‘Tis too late to be wise’, devoted to Haydn, Purcell and Locke, was awarded a Diapason découverte by the critics. For Vibre! they have chosen works from the Renaissance to the Classical period, like cornerstones in the long history of the four instruments. The tour begins with Florentio Maschera and one of his instrumental Canzones, then moves on to the Baroque masters. Vivaldi, first of all, but in an unusual light, with the heavy chromaticism of the Sinfonia Al Santo Sepolcro and the homage to the past of the Concerto Madrigalesco. After Hasse and Nardini, the Kitgut will share one of their discoveries, the Quartet No. 2 in B flat Maj by Maddalena Lombardini, a violinist, pianist and composer from the second half of the 18th century. They will close with the fifth of the Milanese Quartets, composed during Mozart’s second stay in Italy, when he was barely 17.
