Roberto Negro

Roberto Negro, piano

Born in Turin and raised in Kinshasa, pianist and composer Roberto Negro studied jazz in Chambéry and Paris. The linchpin of the Tricollectif collective from Orléans since 2011, Roberto thrives on cross-fertilisation and encounters: theatre (Cie Les Veilleurs), voice (Élise Caron, Xavier Machault), his affinity for duets (Théo Ceccaldi, Émile Parisien).
Inhabited by a visual and narrative dimension, carried by a lyricism that hints at his Italian origins, his music absorbs almost all musical material, blending it into a sensitive discourse where mischief and artistic rigour meet. Roberto was voted Victoires du Jazz 2018 in the “Album sensation of the year” category for his Dadada trio and “Coup de Coeur” by the Charles Cros academy in 2017.
In 2018, Roberto Negro released his first solo project, Kings and Bastards, accompanied by a visual design by Alessandro Vuillermin and an album released on the CamJazz label. In 2020, his quartet’s new album ‘Papier Ciseau’ was released on Label Bleu, a logical follow-up to his DADADA, featuring cellist Valentin Ceccaldi. In 2022, Roberto will be a guest artist at Château Rouge in Annemasse, and will be collaborating with the Ensemble Intercontemporain on a new work, Newborn, to be premiered on 7 November 2022 at La Filature in Mulhouse.
