The Ast Quartet, formed in September 2021, consists of four young Korean women based in Germany. Their name, meaning “branch” in German, symbolizes their goal of spreading their music worldwide. They have already achieved significant recognition, including the special prize for the best performance of a commissioned work at the 13th Premio Paolo Borciani competition and reaching the semi-finals at the 2023 Concours de Genève.
The quartet has performed at prestigious venues such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Osaka Chamber Music Horizon, and festivals including the Mozart Festival in Berlin, the 50th Anniversary Festival in Hanover, and Music in PyeongChang. In 2024, they are invited to perform at the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, McGill International String Quartet Academy, and Hohenloher Kultursommer.
The Ast Quartet has been awarded scholarships from Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland, Ernst von Siemens Music, and Förderkreis der HMTMH e.V. They have participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians like Corina Belcea, Kuss Quartet, and Tabea Zimmermann. Currently, the quartet studies under Professor Oliver Wille at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover and is a member of “Le Dimore del Quartetto.”
