Viola – ex Quatuor Ysaÿe
(France)
Miguel da Silva began his studies at a very young age at the Conservatoire National de Région in his native city of Reims. He then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he studied under Serge Collot. He was awarded first prize in chamber music and viola, the latter unanimously with a special vote from the jury.
In 1985, he won the First Grand Prix at the Paris International Chamber Music Competition in a sonata formation and joined the Orchestra of the Opéra national de Paris. Passionate about the string quartet since his adolescence, he left the orchestra in 1987 to foundYsaÿe Quartet. With this quartet, he enjoyed a remarkable international career, performing in Japan, the United States, notably at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, as well as in Israel and Europe until 2014.
Alongside his artistic activities as a soloist and chamber musician alongside artists such as Michel Portal, Emmanuel Pahud, Augustin Dumay and Gary Hoffman, Miguel da Silva has an intense teaching career: viola teacher at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, he also teaches at the ECMA, the Summer Academy of the University of Vienna (ISA), the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium and is an artistic advisor of the Académie musicale de Villecroze.
