Canadian violinist Martin Beaver was concertmaster of the Tokyo String Quartet from 2002 to 2013. He has received critical and public acclaim on the world’s greatest stages, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and the Sydney Opera House.
His concerts and recitals have taken him around the world with orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, and Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, and under conductors such as Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Gilbert Varga, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
His chamber music collaborations include such prominent artists as Leon Fleisher, Pinchas Zukerman, Lynn Harrell, Sabine Meyer and Yefim Bronfman.
Martin Beaver is a founding member of the Montrose Trio with pianist Jon Kimura Parker and cellist Clive Greensmith.
A prizewinner at the Queen Elizabeth, Montreal and Indianapolis competitions, he has subsequently served on juries of major international violin and chamber music competitions, including the Queen Elizabeth Competition and the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.
A dedicated teacher, he has conducted master classes on five continents, held teaching positions at the Royal Conservatory of Music, the University of British Columbia, and the Peabody
Conservatory. He is currently Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the Colburn Conservatory of Music and the Colburn Music Academy in Los Angeles.
