Terra String Quartet

Harriet Langley, violin
Amelia Dietrich, violin
Chih-Ta Chen, viola
Audrey Chen, cello

Winner of the Melbourne and Osaka International Chamber Music Competitions in 2023, the Terra String Quartet is a dynamic international ensemble based in New York and composed of graduates of the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory of Music, Harvard University and the Curtis Institute of Music. Praised for their ‘remarkable maturity and musicianship’ and their ‘superb ensemble playing’ (Hyde Park Herald, Chicago), they come from all over the world and, thanks to their individuality as artists, are committed to infusing the string quartet with an equal share of passion, spontaneity and humour.

The Terra String Quartet is the 2024-25 ensemble in residence at the Yale School of Music, where it coaches undergraduate chamber ensembles, as well as the Ernst Stiefel Quartet in residence 2024-25 at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. He has recently performed at Capital Region Classical, Rockport Music, Guarneri Hall, Chamber Music Raleigh, Randolph College and the Emilia-Romagna Festival in Italy. He has given concerts with the Quartetto di Cremona and collaborated with pianist Diane Walsh at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival and violinist Ray Chen at the Rockport Chamber Festival.

The Terra String Quartet is very involved in education and community work, having been the ‘23-24 Project Music Heals Us Arts Leadership Ensemble’, and chosen as the inaugural ensemble of the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival. The Quartet won the grand prize and gold medal at the Fischoff National Competition (2022), as well as the Christine and David Anderson Prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition (2022). In their free time, its members enjoy playing mahjong together.
