Canadian violinist Martin Beaver was first violinist of the Tokyo String Quartet from 2002 to 2013. He has been acclaimed by critics and audiences on the world’s greatest stages, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Suntory Hall in Tokyo and the Sydney Opera House . His concerts and recitals have taken him around the world with orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, and under the direction of conductors such as Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Gilbert Varga and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
His chamber music collaborations include eminent artists such as Leon Fleisher, Pinchas Zukerman, Lynn Harrell, Sabine Meyer and Yefim Bronfman.
Martin Beaver is a founding member of the Montrose Trio with pianist Jon Kimura Parker and cellist Clive Greensmith.
Winner of the Queen Elisabeth, Montreal and Indianapolis competitions, he has subsequently served on the juries of major international violin and chamber music competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition and the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. A dedicated teacher, he has conducted masterclasses on five continents and held teaching positions teaching
positions at the Royal Conservatory of Music, the University of British Columbia, and the Peabody Conservatory. He is currently professor of violin and chamber music at the Colburn Conservatory of Music and the Colburn Music Academy in Los Angeles.
