A frequent presence on the international circuit as a soloist and chamber musician, Lise Berthaud has been invited to perform at the Musikverein in Vienna, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Easter Festival in Aix-en-Provence, La Roque d’Anthéron, the Berlioz Festival, Tanglewood and the BBC Proms, among others. Soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre National de Lille, Belgian National Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Musiciens du Louvre, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Sakari Oramo, Andrew Litton, Leonard Slatkin, Marc Minkowski, François Leleux, Emmanuel Krivine.
From 2013 to 2015, she participated in the BBC New Generation Artists programme and performed with all the BBC orchestras. In September 2014, she made her debut at the BBC Proms with the BBC Symphony conducted by Andrew Litton.
She has taken part in recordings of the complete works of Schumann and Fauré with Eric Le Sage (Alpha), and in 2013 released a disc with Adam Laloum on the Aparté label, which won an award (Diapason d’or, France Inter selection). In October 2013, she recorded Harold en Italie for Naxos with the Orchestre National de Lyon under Leonard Slatkin. In 2018, she recorded the complete Brahms chamber music.
Lise Berthaud studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Pierre-Henry Xuereb and Gérard Caussé. At the age of 18, she won the European Competition for Young Performers, and in 2005 she was awarded the Hindemith Prize at the Geneva International Music Competition. She plays an Antonio Casini viola generously made available to her by Bernard Magrez.
