The biggest names in quartet and chamber music join forces for the jury concert of the Bordeaux International Competition! This is an opportunity to rediscover Mozart’s string quintet K. 516, in which the Viennese composer exploits the second viola to its full expressive potential. A sort of evil twin to the quintet K. 515, the work is full of anguish, fever and ceaseless modulations, before finally concluding in a strangely light round. We must continue to make music despite everything, and this is also the message of a Schumann seeking new spaces in the piano quintet formation. Anne Queffélec, a great lady of the piano, will be joining these great masters of the quartet for this monument to Romantic music. Capriccio is the last of Richard Strauss’s lyrical works. Through the image of a love trio, it questions the hierarchies between words and music on the opera stage. Neglecting the expected overture or prelude, Strauss begins his work with a moment of chamber music. A string sextet embodied by the original alliance of Corina Belcea, Amaury Coeytaux, Laurent Marfaing, Miguel Da Silva, Valentin Erben and François Kieffer, transporting us into the fascinating subtleties of a conversation between strings.

Programme:

Gabriel Fauré, Après un rêve
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, String Quintet No. 4 in G minor, K.516
Richard Strauss, Capriccio
Robert Schumann, Piano Quintet in E flat major, Op. 44
