Composer
The Czech composer Kryštof Mařatka lives and works in Prague and Paris. The versatility that characterises his artistic activities in several countries is often seen as a strong link that he creates between various cultural worlds from which he draws inspiration or which he questions, while discovering new paths for musical expression . His works draw on a variety of sources, either from specific and elaborate universes – traditional music of the world, the birth of language in humans, music and art of the Palaeolithic – or from broader universes – literary (melodramas), instrumental or pedagogical (Philharmonie de Paris DEMOS, CNSM de Paris, music rvatories of music). Various arrangements and transcriptions complete the catalogue of his works.
As a conductor, Kryštof Mařatka has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Nederlands Philharmonisch Nederlands Kamerorkest at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Prague Philharmonia Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Prague National Opera O rchestra and many others.
As a pianist, in addition to his own works, he often emphasises his passion for the music of Leoš Janáček as well as for improvisation. In this way, he tries to make the public aware of the attractions of musical creation thanks to the experience of the birth of a work as experienced by the public in real time.
He received the Pierre Cardin Prize from the Academy of Fine Arts in musical composition and a documentary filmwas made and produced in 2007: ‘Naissance d’un imaginaire’ (26 min, Karl More Productions) broadcast on the European television channel Mezzo.
