A violinist since childhood, Jean-Michel Molkhou has divided his life between his profession as a surgeon and his passion for strings. Music critic for the magazine Diapason for more than 30 years, he has also collaborated with the British magazine “The Strad”. Co-author of a multimedia encyclopaedia “Le violon, des hommes, des oeuvres” published in 1997 by Editions Montparnasse, he has also produced several series of broadcasts on France Musique and has participated for several years in the “Tribune des Critiques de Disques”. Following his two volumes on “The Great Violinists of the 20th Century” published by Buchet-Chastel, his latest work “The Great String Quartets of the 20th Century” has just been published by the same publisher. He also collaborated on the book celebrating the centenary of the Théâtre des Champs Elysées (Editions Verlhac, 15. Montaigne) published in 2013. In addition to his interest in violin making and bow making, he regularly plays chamber music with various amateur and professional partners. As a lecturer he is regularly invited to various festivals.
