{"id":4456,"date":"2026-02-06T14:15:05","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T14:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vibrefestival.com\/?post_type=artiste&#038;p=4456"},"modified":"2026-02-06T14:30:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T14:30:48","slug":"prometheus-quartet","status":"publish","type":"artiste","link":"https:\/\/vibrefestival.com\/en\/artiste\/prometheus-quartet\/","title":{"rendered":"Prometheus Quartet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Roger Shao<\/strong>, violin<br \/>\n<strong>Anthony Chan<\/strong>, violin<br \/>\n<strong>Brian Jennings<\/strong>, viola<br \/>\n<strong>Wil Vanderslice<\/strong>, cello<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hailed by the Santa Barbara independent for their \u201ctaut and refined collective sound.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Prometheus Quartet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a New York City-based string quartet inspired by the myth of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prometheus, striving to bring the gift of music to others. Just as Prometheus stole fire from the gods to give to humanity, the quartet aims to bring meaningful forms of connection to audiences through fresh performances of the beloved string quartet repertoire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Formed in 2023 at The Juilliard School, the quartet studied intensively with Merry <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peckham and served as a Gluck Fellowship ensemble for the 2024-2025 school year. At Juilliard, the quartet also studied with Joel Krosnick, Joseph Lin, Natasha Brofsky, Catherine Cho, and the Juilliard String Quartet. Currently, the quartet is the Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the University of Delaware, where they study under the Calidore String Quartet. Additionally, the quartet has coached with Marc Danel, Andr\u00e9 Roy, Min-Jeong Koh, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">members of Quatuor \u00c9b\u00e8ne, the Alban Berg Quartet, the Jerusalem Quartet, the Orion Quartet, the Emerson Quartet, and the Parker Quartet. They have also appeared in masterclasses for Antoine Tamestit and at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center with Paul Watkins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The quartet has performed internationally at festivals such as the Schiermonnikoog Festival (Netherlands), McGill International String Quartet Academy (Canada), and the Music <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academy of the West, where they were named the inaugural Emerging Artist String Quartet <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studying with the Tak\u00e1cs Quartet and performing on their Mariposa Concert Series. Additionally, the quartet is the current educational artists-in-residence at the Chesapeake Music Festival and were prize winners of the Chamber Music Society of Forth Worth\u2019s Emerging Artist competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dedicated to innovation in the concert scene, the quartet also performed in \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mad King<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, a collaboration between Carnegie Hall and Juilliard\u2019s \u201cNew Series\u201d performing Schoenberg&#8217;s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Op. 41, in a multimedia setting alongside guest pianist Baron Fenwick and actress Ana Karne\u017ea. The quartet has also worked closely with Juilliard Arnhold Creative Associate, flutist Claire Chase, as part of her project <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Density<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 2036.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rated as one of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Classical Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Critic\u2019s Choice 2024-25 performances, the quartet premiered a new version of Terry Riley\u2019s \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holy Liftoff<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d for string quartet, flute and electronic tape for Juilliard\u2019s Fall Festival.
