Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Bazas

Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste
30 Place de la Cathédrale
Bazas

Built in the 13th century by Bishop Arnaud de Pii, on the model of the great Gothic cathedrals of northern France, it is part of the Archdiocese of Bordeaux and was classified as a Historic Monument in 1840, then listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, as part of the Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. In addition to the magnificent and long nave, it is distinguished by its portals, the most beautiful example of Gothic statuary in Gironde with the Last Judgement and the story of St John the Baptist.
